Carolina Gibbs M.Ed.
Carolina Gibbs is a teacher, administrator, graduate teaching instructor, education specialist and coach. Carolina is a second generation American of Cuban descent. Her family immigrated to Chicago as a result of her father's Major League Baseball career with the Chicago White Sox. Although Carolina was born in Chicago, Illinois, she did not speak English when she started school in kindergarten. Her early experiences with language continue to shape and drive her teaching and learning journey. She earned her undergraduate degree in Physical Education, with a minor in Spanish. She later went on to complete her Master of Education in Instructional Leadership with a concentration in ELL/Bilingual Education. Thereafter, she completed her Administration Certification at Loyola University Chicago.
Carolina has taught and lead across K-12 and higher education. This included teaching in bilingual education (Spanish) settings, District Administrator for ELL/Bilingual Services, Director of Curriculum and Instruction and finally serving as a principal for 10 years. Something that has been at the forefront of her career focus is building teacher capacity. Carolina has had the privilege of working with teacher leaders throughout her entire career. The focus of this work has been and still is to empower teacher teams to build coherence in schools. She continues to mentor and support teachers even today.
She has shared her background and expertise at many conferences and worked on a committee for the National Association of Elementary School Principals. She has won various awards such at the State of Illinois, Those Who Excel Award, District 62 Lighthouse Award, District 62 Community Partnership Award and Pearson Top Performer Award. She wrote and taught the graduate level ELL/Bilingual courses at Northern Illinois University and Loyola University Chicago. She continues to work as a lead educational specialist, in the past for Pearson/Savvas and now for Catapult Learning.
Concurrent with her administrative time, Carolina founded her educational consulting company which focuses on helping improve the implementation of their ELL and Bilingual Programs as well as working as a lead educational specialist and coach. In her most recent work, she has co-authored and developed Instructional Tech Coaches. It is a flexible, virtual, and interactive job embedded coaching offering designed for educators using the Google Suite Applications.
